Easy Way To Make Fabric Flower For Accessories

I tried a few ways to make these fabric flowers:

this was the easiest way for me:

Start off with your fabric and trace a large bowl (The bigger the circle the fuller the flower)

Cut out the traced circle

Make a spiral cut starting from the outside and ending in the middle

Take the outer edge of the spiral circle and lightly burn it

Like so:

Trace a small circle on scrap and cut (Should be the size you want the flower to end up)

Starting in the center of the smaller circle, hot glue the inner center of the spiral circle to the smaller circle

in a circular motion, continue to glue the inner edge of the spiral cut to the small circle.

Add buttons or beads to the center of the flowers and your done!

Make them into hair accessories by adding a clip to the back

Pillow Case Little Girl Sun Dress

This has to be the easiest way to make a little girls dress! It's made out of a pillow case which means most of the sewing is done (that's my kind of sewing!)
Here's how it turned out:

See this for the first time, I would be like, "NO that looks way too complicated (for me!)"

But OH how I was wrong! Love it!

First I started with a pillow case (I found these matching ones at the thrift store for $2...perfect!)

Then I put one against my daughter to see how much I needed to cut from the top (not professional, I know, but it worked)  :)

I love the edging

What I did was:

Cuffed the top to make a clean edge and sew with elastic thread

shirred the fabric on top:

read how to do this here or on back of the package that held the elastic thread--(at least that's what I did). 

You pretty much have the dress done (and it took what, maybe 10 min?), but I wanted to add a little bit of a sleeve. The easiest way to do this is make a strap and add a cap sleeve (I did two tear like shapes and made them into a tulip sleeve---made it up, so not perfect)

 Pin and sew to dress... 

Then your done!

 I know my daughter loves it because she didn't want to take it off. Good thing it wasn't hard to do or expensive because if it was.....She would NOT be playing in it outside!.... :)

Cinco De Mayo Dress

Cinco De Mayo is right around the corner and I'm thinking of having a little fiesta! :)
I had this spare twin size red sheet and thought it would be fun to make my daughters a skirt to celebrate. After making the skirts, I figured they'd need a shirt to go along with that..... And why not a little hair flower....Man lol.
The great part is this is SOOOOOOO simple!!!!

I measured my daughter from the waist to her heel (she's 20in)
I fold the sheet in half, length wise (hot dog style)
I measured and cut (length wise) 20in (since it's a sheet you're using, one side is already hemmed! Yea!)
I trimmed (already hemmed side) with ribbon
I did a ruffle seam on the opposite side (cut edge), and pulled for a light ruffle.
I measured my daughter's waist (she's 18in)
I cut elastic 18in
I then made a waist-band 4in wide and 19in length (I added 1in to her waist measurement)
I fold the waist band right side in and sewed length wise, turned right side out, thread the elastic through, based the edge with the elastic hanging out 1/4in
I then sewed the band to the ruffled edge of the skirt (length wise)
Lastly, put the two lengths sides together (right side in) and sew from top to bottom
Turn right side out and you're done!

For the Shirt, I just took a white under shirt (T-Shirt) and attached my ruffle from shoulder hem to opposite shoulder hem.

For the flower, I took my ruffle, and in a circular motion, attached it to a piece of interfacing. Adding a clip to the back

*It sounds more complicated then it really is...so....I'm going to be making a picture tutorial when I make my other daughter's. Check back soon!
